As a prologue this short film is an introduction to an on going process feature documentary.
Emmanuel Risacher is a Zen monk of the Soto school of Japanese Buddhism. He is also my father. He was already a monk long before I was born. He begins each of his days by meditating. To finalize his apprenticeship, he went to Japan, to the Toshoji temple. to follow a grueling and intensive 3-month session called Ango. His mother, Jacqueline, is worried and doesn’t understand this choice. On his return, in front of the filmed sequences, Emmanuel, silent and mysterious for more than fifty years, finally explains to his mother this practice which has always fascinated him.
